Welcome to Foundation One!

We have had a great start back at school, we welcomed back the children from last year, as well as, children starting nursery for the first time. We have settled in well with our routine and have enjoyed exploring our environment and the provision on offer.Our learning takes place inside in our classrooms as well as outside. We have a learning area outside and we regularly visit the garden too.

 

 

Autumn One

What journey could we go on?

 

We will be looking at different methods of transport, as well as, different destinations the children could visit. Our nursery has a travel agents, where they can decide their destination and book their visits. We will read different stories and retell these. The children will have lots of opportunities to improve their gross and fine motor skills with activities such as, yoga, write dance and dough disco!

We will be having a visit from a puppet workshop and we will learn how to put on our own puppet show. We will have a visit from a librarian to read us some stories. We will celebrate National Poetry Day and make our own musical instruments to play as we sing nursery rhymes. We will end the half term by collecting food for a Harvest Festival, which we will donate to the Salvation Army.

Summer 1

This half term we are going to be learning about Emergency Services and how they help us. We will be looking at the Fire Service, Police and Ambulance. We will learn about these services through books, art work and many other fun activities. We will also be sharing books by our author of the half term, Catherine and Laurence Anholt.

Fruit Tasting with ASDA

Spring 2

This half term we are learning about Café's. We will be looking at lots of stories relating to this topic and by the author of the half term Margaret Mayo. We will also be role playing a visit to a café and learning how to use a menu to order food. We will also learn about the things you find in a café and will be using different materials to decorate things like teapots and cups.

Getting ready to write!

We develop lots of the muscles and skills ready to write while we are at nursery. Even though we might not look like it. We do balancing activities to develop our core strength. We develop our grip on objects when using scissors, playing in the water and through other fine motor activities. We also start to look carefully at things when we are doing jigsaws and creating patterns.

Reading Rockets

We have been making reading rockets. They are somewhere cosy for us to go and sit with a book!

We had lots of fun celebrating World Book Day! We dressed up as pirates and read the story pirates love underpants. We enjoyed making pirate hats and treasure maps. We also enjoyed playing with the pirate ship and looking for treasure in the sand.

Spring One

Topic: People who help us

Role Play: Bakery

 

During our focus on the bakery we will be counting biscuits and candles, listening to stories about baking such as: Mr Cookie Bake and Walter the Baker. Our author this half term is Mick Inkpen. We will be reading books such as One Bear at Bedtime, Is it Bedtime Wibbly Pig? and Kipper's Birthday.

Topic: The Gingerbread Man

Role play- The Gingerbread Man

 

This half term we are continuing with our ‘Traditional Tales’ topic. The children have enjoyed listening to the Gingerbread Man story and have been enjoying retelling the story in the role play area. We made chocolate dipped apples and had hotdog and mushy peas to celebrate bonfire night. Our ‘Wow’ board is based around our Gingerbread Man theme. We have started adding different Gingerbread Men designs.

We dressed up for Children in Need Day and decorated cakes to sell. Thank you for all the kind donations.

We had lots of fun with the nocturnal animals in the hall. He held them in our hands and touched them gently. We even had the Python snake around our neck. We were very brave!

We went in 8A to explore and find things that we could add to our investigation table.

Our author focus of this half term is Tony Mitton. Here are some of the stories we have enjoyed listening to.

We have enjoying listening to the ‘Owl Babies’ and ‘Oliver’s Wood’ story based around owls. We loved watching Archie, Spiky and Gizmo flying around the school hall and we were very brave to hold them on our arm.

We made Chocolate dipped apples to celebrate Bonfire Night.

We have had a great start to nursery with lots of fun and exciting activities. We have settled in well to our nursery routines and enjoy coming to nursery to learn and play with our friends. We take parts in lots of fun and messy activities during the session with adults and when we play with our friends. We enjoy playing and learning indoors and in the outdoors as well as exploring in the 8A garden.

Topic: Traditional Tails: The Three Little Pigs

Role play- The Three Little Pigs

 

We have enjoyed reading different traditional tail stories but our favourite was the Three Little Pigs story. We enjoyed retelling the story in our role-play area and building houses for the pigs. We had lots of fun painting the pigs houses and collaging them, paint mixing and painting the pigs and other characters for our topic display board.

      We have been enjoying the Dough Disco using the play-dough to make different things. We celebrated the National Poetry day and sang nursery rhymes. Every Friday we have been celebrating Acts of Kindness with our friends.

We enjoyed our visit from a librarian who read the ‘Shark in the Park’ story to us. Some of our parents came to join us. We had lots of fun looking for the shark in the book using the binoculars. We also enjoyed singing the 5 little ducks song.

We had lots of fun at the puppet workshop, where we got to listen to different traditional tails and joined in retelling stories using the puppets. We really enjoyed telling the ‘Three Billy Goats Gruff’ story using the big puppets.
